homework tips

How can you assist your child in doing his or her homework?  Here are a few tips for parents from the Alberta Teachers Association:

  • Read the assignment before commenting on what needs to be done.

  • Ask your child questions so that he or she thinks in relation to the assignment’s requirements.

  • Leave your child alone while he or she is doing the assignments.  Only offer observations and suggestions if you are asked.

  • Don’t criticize the assignment or your child’s work.  Look for positive aspects.

  • Encourage and praise your child.  Point out the areas where your child shows improvement or has done something interesting.

Call the school or the specific teacher to discuss if your child has problems that you notice with the homework.
