Alberta Education is asking everyone to get involved in a project that will shape the future of Special Education in Alberta.
Beginning immediately and until mid December 2008 Alberta Education will be gathering stakeholder information from the public for future direction in Special Education. The goal is to generate future vision and principles that will shape future policy, funding and accountability for Special Education in Alberta.
A Discussion Guide has been designed and anyone in Alberta can give their personal feedback at www.settingthedirection.alberta.ca . It is a very simple questionnaire and all parents and students are encouraged to participate. You may also call 780-643-0834.
Submissions will be accepted on behalf of groups such as school councils. You are encouraged to develop and submit to Alberta Education any submissions that your school community would like to put forward. You may also wish to register and participate in a public consultations held in Edmonton Wednesday, November 26 at the Ramada Hotel, 11834, Kingsway Ave. (One from 1:30 – 4:30, the other in the evening from 6:30 – 9:30)
Currently there is a District Parent Group for Inclusive Special Needs Students that meets regularly and they will be developing a submission on behalf of this group. If you would like to bring your views forward to this group of parents please email or call Cory Donald (donaldc@ecsd.net) at 780-989-3000).
