I’m sure that at some time in your life, someone has said to you, “What are you waiting for? Christmas?” It was probably said in jest, or sarcastically, and chances are it may have even hurt your feelings. It may have caused anger. Waiting seems to do that for people. We view “waiting” as being negative. We wait in line to make purchases.. We wait in the fast food drive thru (fast food??)…...we wait at the bank (they need more tellers)……..we wait in traffic… we get put on hold … we wait and wait. Sunday, November 30th, marks the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is a time of waiting, and a time for preparing for the coming of our Saviour at Christmas. It is a very positive period of waiting. It is a time of “active waiting” in that we are not idle, but we are preparing ourselves for a major celebration. Each day is like a countdown….26...25….24…... Each day we need to ask ourselves if we are prepared for what is to come. At school and through your Parish, we ask you to prepare yourself for Christmas, and truly experience this period of “waiting”.
