![]() student councilWelcome to Student Council & LEADERSHIPThe Leadership Committee hosted a theme day on May 21, 2010 to promote the coming of summer. The theme day was ‘Hawaii Day’. Thanks to all who participated in Hawaii Day! The Leadership Team helped promote our Lenten project of collecting cereal and granola bars for St. Francis of Assisi. Congratulations to the 9A class who brought in the most and were cooked a pancake breakfast by the student teachers and administration before Spring Break. The spring garbage pickup last year was a great help in improving the look of the community after winter. We are planning to go out in the community again during the month of April and are hoping for sunshine after Spring Break! During the month of February the Student Leadership Team
went from class to class
collecting donations for the relief effort in Haiti as well as donating
the money raised from our Valentine’s Day activities. St. Mark raised
$400 towards this cause, to which the St. Mark’s Lenten project kicked off in the middle of February and will run until Easter. This year St. Mark has decided to help out St. Francis of Assisi School with their cereal/granola bar program. How can we make this fundraiser successful Cereal and Cereal Bars for St. Francis of Assisi. Each homeroom competes to see who can collect the most cereal and cereal bars. Between now and March 25th homerooms will collect boxes of cereal and cereal bars to donate to St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School. On March 25th, 2010 all homerooms will report to the gymnasium with all of the products they have collected and will participate in a competition where they will line up all of the products end to end moving across the gym. The homeroom class that makes it the furthest with their boxes of cereal and cereal bars will win a pancake breakfast put on by the student teachers and administration. The breakfast will take place the morning of March 26th, 2010. All of the cereal and cereal bars will then be collected and donated to St. Francis of Assisi School Elementary School. All
students in grade 8 and 9 are welcome and invited to participate in
Leadership. We are looking for students committed to the Student
Leadership and school spirit at St. Mark. The teacher advisors are Miss
R and Mr. K. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Our first dance was on October 30th in the spirit of Halloween with fun activities throughout the day. This year’s students will be working on enhancing school spirit by planning such fun activities:
We also raise funds to donate to the Sign of Hope organizations and to supply prize give-a-ways to St. Mark students who are participating in some of the great activities we will be putting on this year! kids.nowSt. Mark is excited to be offering the 12 week Kids.now program to grade 7 and 8 student leaders of our school. This program will be delivered over 12 weeks from 11:45 am to 12:45 beginning Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7. Kids. Now is finishing up their program with specific grade 7 and 8 students who built up their leadership capacity. The grade 7’s were treated to a windup field trip by their coordinator Ryan Linklater, account manager of Corus Entertainment (CISN Country, 630 CHED, Joe FM). The students went on a field trip to the radio station for a tour and were treated to a catered lunch in the boardroom. A second session of Kids. Now will run in the spring. Kids.now is a national program for youth development whereby grade 7 and 8 students are coached to make positive choices to help them reach their full potential. It complements the existing school curriculum with life skills development through a program that includes thought-provoking games, skill-based activities and group discussions, which teach goal setting, effective communication, positive conflict resolution, and stress management. These enhance self-esteem and encourage positive healthy thinking. Last year we. . .
In the month of May, the Leadership Committee hosted a theme day on May 20, 2009 to promote the coming of summer. The theme day was ‘Hawaii Day’. Our Social Justice project for June will be announced later and will take place mid month. Thanks to all who participated in Hawaii Day! Our students leadership team ventured out into the community on April 30th to clean up litter that collected over the winter. We are very pleased with the spirit our team has shown when it comes to helping make our community clean. Our leadership team is also planning a Hawaiian theme day in early May!! The Leadership Team planned a very successful Talent Show that took place the Friday morning before Spring Break. We have a lot of talent that was showcased very well!! Unfortunately Leadership snow shoveling never did happen. The recycling program is also in full swing, we are collecting more and more bottles every month. Keep up the great work!! Leadership was very busy during the month of February! Our flower gram sale was a great success. On Valentine’s Day students dressed up in their best and wore the color red…there was great participation!! Students rocked the afternoon away at our Valentine Dance; we would like to thank the St. Joseph High School Music program for supplying the DJ for our dance! Since the snow is still falling we are planning to get out and do some spring snow shoveling early in March! We raised over $250 from flower gram and glow stick sales. The proceeds from this will be given to a St. Mark family that is going through a difficult time. We had a pajama theme day on January 26th and saw great participation from our students! Our new recycling program was growing steadily over the past few months with the help of our leadership students who help to collect and organize the hundreds of empty containers. Keep up the great work St. Mark!
Candy Grams were sold during lunch over the last couple of weeks in December and delivered by Santa himself on the last day of school. All proceeds from this Student Leadership fundraiser went towards the Sign of Hope Campaign. Sock Hop - On Friday, December 19th, students celebrated the beginning of the Christmas Break with a Sock Hop! Halloween - Thank you to all students and staff who participated in the Halloween activities. The costumes were creative and fun! Each homeroom was involved in wrapping their teacher up like a mummy and the winner was Mr. C's Grade 8A class. For those who like to dance, the DJ played a wide variety of songs and for those who prefer to do homework, study or read, were a provided a classroom. Student Leadership, an extra curricular activity, will be organized a little differently this year. Rather than having student elections, all students are welcome and invited to participate in Leadership. We are looking for students committed to the Student Leadership and school spirit at St. Mark. The teacher advisors are Mr. K., Miss R., Mrs. K. and Mr. K.. Please feel free to contact any of these teachers if you have any questions. The leadership team has started up a Participation Points Program to create school spirit. We are very excited to kick start this program! Announcing the St. Mark Student Leadership Team for 2008-2009
The Student Leadership Team is made up of student
volunteers from all grades and classes who want to help make St. Mark’s a fun
place to be. The St. Mark Student Council Leadership Team is an excellent
opportunity for new students to become involved in the school and meet new
people.
We will also fund raise to donate money for the Sign of Hope organizations and to supply prize give-a-ways to St. Mark students who are participating in some of the great activities we will be putting on this year! Student fundraising is used to assist worthwhile causes and to contribute to the purchase of prizes for special events. The students are given many opportunities to be part of a team, develop leadership skills, and become a valuable part of our school community. [ top ] |
